Relationships are at the core of who we are at Ayo Uko. On our journey to spotlight exquisite textiles across the African continent, we strive to build and nurture deep collaborative relationships. Our partnerships with female artisan weavers are an example of such meaningful relationships. Zainab was taught the ancient art of weaving Aso Oke, traditional Yoruba hand-woven cloth, on the Oguntoro Vertical Loom at an early age. She does this using ancient techniques passed down through her mother and from generations of weavers before her. Although she is a graduate of computer science, she makes her living through her Aso Oke weaving and hopes to pass her skills onto the next generation. It is through relationships with committed artisan weavers such as Zainab that Ayo Uko has forged a ground game in communities across Africa.
